Think and Do Tank Program
The Resilience Think and Do Tank (RTDT) is a three-year initiative working to convene, and catalyse agri-food investment across eight arid and semi arid lands (ASAL) counties by generating credible investment evidence,
strengthening the institutions that govern investment decisions, and brokering linkages between viable agri-food opportunities and the private capital required to realise them.
The program led by Millennium Water Alliance (MWA) Kenya works with agribusinesses turning local raw materials and underused resources into commercial, export-ready products. Together, they highlight Kenya’s growing capacity to combine local sourcing, technical know-how, and cooperative farmer networks into investable, scalable agribusiness models. The following enterprises are already generating income and impact for smallholders and pastoralist households while building toward larger commercial scale.
Multi Seed
Multi Seed is a KEPHIS-certified potato seed merchant producing certified seed at the Breeder, Pre-Basic, Basic, and Certified (C1/C2) stages. Working from Rooted Apical Cuttings the enterprise multiplies disease free, high-yield planting material and supplies it through the 1,574-member Lanyuak Cooperative network across Narok County and clients from other counties in Kenya, helping close the country’s chronic shortage of certified potato seeds. Hafrey Limited
Hafrey Limited operates an intensive beef feedlot in Northern Kenya’s Isiolo County, sourcing grass-fed Boran cattle from a network of over 1,000 pastoralist suppliers across the region’s Arid and Semi-Arid Lands. Cattle
are fattened and finished on a 350-acre far over a structured 90-to-105 day cycle using a Total Mixed Ration system, before being supplied as traceable, quality-graded beef to formal offtakers including Sultan Meat Packers, Farmers Choice, and Quality Meat Packers, as well as retail butchers in Isiolo, Meru, and Nanyuki. Ziada Solutions
Ziada Solutions turns banana stalk waste, ordinarily burned or left to rot, into a portfolio of high-value products: banana fibre hair extensions, handwoven baskets, carpets and mats, banana flour, and liquid fertilizer sold back to farmers. Through a decentralised Farmer-Producer Organisation model, mobile decorticator machines are stationed directly at farmer group sites belonging to the 750-member Taita Taveta Banana Cooperative (TATABA), and the enterprise already supplies confirmed export orders to the United States alongside domestic retail and hospitality buyers.
